SAT 100RW: SAT Foundations of Critical Reading and Writing

Description:

Most middle school and early high school students have never been exposed to SAT type questions or taken a test with a difficulty level that the SAT has. SAT Foundations serves as an introductory course to the SAT, providing a weekly course in which students can familiarize themselves with the basic layout of the exam and the different types of questions. During the course students will learn how to use key test strategies to their benefit, and how to write an SAT style timed essay successfully. The class will cover all three sections of the SAT, but will place an emphasis on the Critical Reading and Writing sections. After each class, students will receive homework that will include practice questions, 100 vocabulary words, and a reading passage from the New York Time or The Wall Street Journal. By receiving a large amount of practice and working through actual SAT sections; students will have a strong basis for taking the SAT. Unlike other test preparation workshops, SAT Foundations is also offered in the Fall and a special version for 6th and 7th graders is offered in the Spring to prepare students for the Duke Tip Talent Search.
